Unit 3- North America Beckons

A large amount of money and time was spent on the exploration because of how much they want to expand on their current status during the age of exploration. With the wealth only certain people had, they were able to organize themselves into exploring the unknown parts of the world. This lead to the creation of colonies and long distance trading with people from farther places. The age of exploration opened the eyes of many and discovered the undiscovered, but it also created war.

The North American First nations seemed like they were savages to the European when they first came to meet each other. They were both civilized in their own way, but many Europeans thought that the First Nations have been living in a wrong matter and tried to change them whereas the majority of the First Nations meant no harm. Europeans were interfering too much with the First Nations and their culture.

The French and British managed to take control of North America by colonizing in certain areas and eventually expanding on their living. This expansion spread  throughout the entire continent and the countries today have the language of the people who colonized there. Even though it was only the French and British took control,  North America is 50% multicultural like Canada today.

Vote Compass!

During class, we were assigned to do and complete an online test called the vote compass. The function of it is to see and help choose a preferred party according to your answers or opinions. I tried to complete the vote compass and my result was headed mostly towards the NDP. I was a rather convenient choice for me.

The vote compass is a great way to choose which party you want to vote for. Also it helps you learn more about what the ideas of each party and what they have to offer. This can guide the people who doesn’t know too much about the parties. The feedback from the vote compass can affect the voter’s way of thinking.

Unit 2- Why do revolutions happen? Use examples and be specific.

Revolutions occur mainly because of injustice and or an important need of a certain action towards aiding people. It creates a powerful impact on the area u live in. Even now, the revolutions that happened back then turned our society into who we are today. The reason for causing a revolution may include that the requirements for the people’s need were unfortunately met.

Like the French Revolution, it happened because the taxes were too high for the people to afford. Also, the monarchy were spending the needed money on themselves instead of help improving the place they ruled. The result was that the people formed a mob to overthrow the king and queen and killed them. This was for the benefit for the people who wanted the call for justice to be answered.

Though the American Revolution happened similarly yet different. They fought for independence and involved many countries around the world. After the American revolution, they transformed and became their own country. And the causes for this revolution is similar in terms of taxes but different because of acts and events such as the Boston tea party and the Boston massacre. The people basically wanted to be freed themselves from their unfair rulers.

Unit 2- Changes comes to Europe

What are the pros and cons of living in a democratic country?

An advantage of living under a democratic country is that people have the right to say or vote. This provides us with freedom and support towards the democratic government. Such as the liberty to have a say, many individuals are considered to be equal and each have equal rights. This makes us live in a more complex and civilized life.

There are also some disadvantages towards living under a democratic country. With the many people involved, making votes or making new law enforcement consumes a large amount of time to finally apply. The government of democracy is rather unorganized or slow even though with civilized commandments. Not every person’s saying will be heard.

Another pro would be that along with the right to say, the voices of the people could be heard, giving an opportunity  to give control to the government. Because of this, some individuals are able to at least enjoy some of the applied votes or sayings. Even if it is possible to control it, the democratic government is careful at making the right decisions and what is best for their people, even though it is not what we voted for. In the end, they only lend their ears towards the reasonable votes of the people, and them.

Unit 1- Geography: How did the invention of maps change our world?

Maps changed our world for the better senses of navigation. People today seem to know where to go as long as they have a map of where they’re going. If we have no maps, we will still be wondering lost on the giant world we live in. Without the invention of maps, most of the people today won’t be able to navigate their way back because of no sense of direction. The way maps are laid out today makes it easy for us to explore and find new things.

They can be considered “facts”, but can they can also be subjective because sometimes they are not sure that some lands will be the same forever. Those lands might be caught in a natural incident such as a tsunami, totally wiping out the land ceasing it to exist. But many people today see it as facts because it is true of what they mostly see in the map.  Though they can be subjective, it wont be 100% because the maps are really accurate with technologies today.

Google Maps and GPS gave the world a chance to explore and meet their destination. Even though it’s really useful at times, they’re not 100% accurate. Sometimes, they recognize certain areas as if they were the same last year. They won’t be able to realize that some streets and roads because some are constructed into something different from the road. Though GPS and Google Maps are sometimes incorrect, they do present other routes to meet someone’s destination, still making it useful for people today.

Unit 1- Geography: How does our environment affect who we are?

People or even creatures around us has been impacted by the environment. Depending on the location and weather conditions, we tend to rely on them as a need for survival, or a supply for food such as products from plants or fish and water of the rivers. Resources such as these are needed for living, which is how our environment affects us. It may affect us directly through its resources or it may affect us through emotion. Naturally we need our environment for what it contains, but some individuals get affected emotionally, depending on the mood of the weather. For example, a young boy’s feelings are quite bright because it’s a sunny outside. It doesn’t just affects us physically.

If I were to live in an environment of just the dessert, it’d be difficult for me to live through it without being bestowed upon the primary sources of life. Because the dessert doesn’t hold much sources of food and water, it affects the way i’d live crudely. The same goes for the harsh cold areas. With its intense temperature, it can also create an impact on the way I live drastically. It might be harder to survive through the cold because it’s harder to collect food and the cold habitat makes it worse for our bodies.

Asides from the habit of living, the resources of our environment can affect us through trading and the way we live. People back then were using some good sources of the trees and sea to trade for goods, others were using the chopped parts of the tree for building houses, furniture, or unique creations. Some individuals still do this today, we sit on chairs and dine on tables. That’s how it affects the way we live.

Intro: How can learning about the past help us make better decisions today?

Looking back to our past could also mean learning from them such as knowing our mistakes. The past can hurt but you can only either run away from it, or learn from it. By learning from it, it can help us make better decisions today. Thus making us a more intelligent person. The more we learn, the wiser we become of future mistakes.

It can somehow resort back to the childhood, curiously touching the hot stove and getting burned from it. After the small commotion, we intend not to do it again in the future because we don’t want to hurt ourselves which is how the past can help us decide on better decisions. Realizing this habit is very useful as we mature. Our error can be our reminder to make good choices.

Other than ourselves, we can also learn from other individual’s pasts as an example for us to make a better decision. We can learn about them from studying in Social Studies. These topics might include Racism, Sexism, or even Prejudice. By learning about the famous or infamous people of these subjects, we can look back to their events to make better decisions.
